Handmade Double Basses

Instruments I make are inspired by the traditions of the old masters. They have optimized geometry for contemporary players and use a blend of classic and modern materials.

Model “OG”

A reinterpretation of the “O” Model with Gamba corners. This large bass is built to provide power in the orchestra yet not so large to be cumbersome up and down the fingerboard. Opus 6 features a one piece poplar back and wide grain spruce top yielding a warm complex tone that sound like an old experienced bass with modern geometry.

Model "M"

This model was derived from an 1899 Marchetti bass I restored. While staring at the inside of that bass, I fell in love with flow of the outline and balance of the proportions. Over the next several months, I drafted my own interpretation of this classic form. Opus3, Opus4, and Opus5

Model "O"

This model is taken from an old Italian bass thought to have been made in Milan. A large, broad 7/8th size commands the low end yet allows easy access to the upper register.  Opus1, Opus2
